Now on the Chrome Web Store · Free and open source

Drag and drop files into any upload button.

Plenty of sites only give you a “Browse…” button. DnD Anywhere turns every file field and upload button into a drop zone, on every website. No account, no tracking, no network requests.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drag files into the window

From your desktop, Finder, Explorer or another app.

  2. 2

    Drop zones appear

Every upload field on the page lights up, labeled with what it accepts.

  3. 3

    Drop, done

The site receives your files as if you'd picked them in the file dialog.

This field only has a button. With the extension installed, drag a file from your computer onto it. Nothing is uploaded: the file stays in this page.

Works with

Private by construction

  • Zero network requests. A CI check fails any build that adds one.
  • No data collection. No analytics, telemetry or crash reports.
  • One permission: storage, for your settings.
  • Readable code. The shipped extension isn't minified, so anyone can audit it.

Questions

Why does it ask to “read and change all your data on all websites”?

Chrome shows that warning for any extension whose script runs on every site. Upload fields can be on any page, so a small script has to be present to find them. It does nothing until you drag files into the window, and it never reads or sends page content anywhere. The code is public.

Does it upload my files anywhere?

No. It makes no network requests at all. The files you drop go into the upload field you dropped them on, exactly as if you had picked them in the file dialog. What happens next is up to that website.

It doesn't work on a site I use. What now?

Some sites check whether a click came from a real person, or use unusual pickers. When a drop doesn't take, DnD Anywhere offers to open the normal file picker. Please report the site from the toolbar button so we can add support.

Can I turn it off for a site?

Yes. Click the toolbar button and switch it off for that site. You can also turn it off everywhere from Options.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome, plus Chromium browsers that install from the Chrome Web Store (Brave, Arc, Opera, and Edge with “Allow extensions from other stores”). Native Edge and Firefox listings are coming.

Is it really free?

Yes. It's MIT-licensed open source, with no ads, accounts or paid tier.

Stop hunting for files in the picker.
